Wargame companies come and go, and the only thing that matters is how well the games they produce are received by the vast, dedicated, informed and intelligently critical world of gamers. The most direct measure of that reception is the citations and recognition that the company's games receive.

GMT is proud to have garnered these awards, and we pledge to continue producing games of the highest caliber.

18xx & Railroad-Themed Games

18xx is the collective term used to describe a set of railroad-themed stock market and tile laying games. The 18xx set has two main branches: the 1829 branch (1829, 1825, 1853, and 1829 Mainline) and the 1830 branch (1830, 1856, 1870, etc). There are also a number of crossover games which sit somewhere between the two branches (eg 1860). While general railroad operations such as track laying are critical to both branches, the two branches are fundamentally quite different in character and player focus. The 1829 branch games emphasize stock-picking and portfolio management while the 1830 branch concentrates more on financial prediction and stock market manipulation. So in 1829 et al players are rewarded for holding the right stocks at the right time and for running their companies well, while in 1830 et al they are are rewarded more for manipulating the stock market to their advantage and investing in the companies that thereby profit.

Age of Reason

Age of Reason games are set in the late 17th century to late 18th century.

For gaming purposes, the Age of Reason started around 1690, coming to an end with the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Era.

Air Combat Games

Games primarily concerned with mechanical flight, including planes, helicopters, and gliders.

American Indian Wars

American Indian Wars games generally have themes concerning the battles and wars between the indigenous peoples of North America and the colonizing European powers during the 17th and 18th centuries or the United States government during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Most American Indian Wars games are also categorized as Wargames.

Battles of the American Revolution Series (GMT)

Block Games

A block wargame is a board wargame that represents military units using wooden "blocks" instead of cardboard counters. These blocks are typically square and are generally thick enough that they can be placed on their side with the front facing the owning player. Details about the unit (for instance, its identity as well as its attack, defense and movement scores) can then be seen easily by the owning player, while the opposing player will be left unsure of the exact nature of piece; while he can see where his rival's forces are, fog of war is emulated by preserving the secrecy of the type and quality of the troops.

Often, block pieces display the main information in the center with a series of numbers (or pips) around the edge, so that the current strength of the unit can be shown in a step-reduction system. When the unit is wounded (representing a single person) or diminished in number (representing more than one person), the player turns it counterclockwise, with the number of pips at the top of block indicating its current strength. While the example block has four steps (strengths of 4, 3, 2 and 1 respectively), blocks can have fewer steps.

Alternatively, some block wargames require the player to remove the block representing the wounded unit from the board and replace it with a block with a lower strength.

Classic Solitaire Game

Most current solitaire systems on the market today have the player take one side for the entire game. This pits the player against a random 'Bot system, even the best of which have some difficulty giving you the same challenge as playing against a human opponent. Here you get to play both sides, pitting yourself against the best that YOU can offer.

COIN Series

This series features Volko Ruhnke's game system presenting modern guerilla warfare and COunterINsurgencies around the world.

Commands & Colors

The Command and Colors system is a simplified wargaming system designed by Richard Borg. Common elements of all Command and Colors games are a deck of Command Cards, which can be classified as Section cards and Tactics cards, and Battle Dice. In the Command and Colors System the playing field is divided into a center section and a right and left flank. Section cards are used to allow the ordering of unit(s) occupying one or more sections. Tactics cards are also available to allow special attacks. Another identifying feature of the system is the use of battle dice to resolve individual battles.

Fast Action Battles (FAB) Series

From Rick Young, designer of Europe Engulfed, comes a series of fun, tense block games. FAB games focus on speed and playability with low unit-density while keeping the history both accurate and exciting.

FAB delivers a new blend of units and decisions to the block game genre: your forces are a mixture of wooden blocks and die-cut counters.

* Blocks: your divisions and brigades are multi-step wooden blocks with printed labels on one side only, with step-losses represented by rotating the blocks. FAB has a new twist on the units in that the pips on the edges of the blocks are color coded to represent troop quality, which can change as a Division suffers losses. Elite Units can lose their edge and become Veteran, while Green Units can harden and become Veteran as they experience the strains of combat.

* Counters: Die-cut counters represent (1) additional Assets available to you as the Field Commander and (2) major Events that could have or did occur during the battle.

* Assets represent engineers, army level artillery, independent armor and infantry regiments/battalions, and other small units that can be temporarily assigned to the battles that you deem important to your strategy.

* Randomly drawn Events provide divisional replacements, air strikes, interdiction teams, parachute drops, and events unique to each battle in the Series. These Events represent unique opportunities which you can use to influence the outcome, although you cannot count on exactly when these opportunities will be available to you.

Another strong element of FAB is the return of Special Actions, which have already been proven in GMT’s Europe Engulfed design to give flexible, exciting game play. Special Actions give you tense choices in deciding how and when to seize initiative or interfere with a sudden move by your opponent.

Fast-Playing Final Crisis Series

Fast-Playing Final Crisis Series
These games are card-driven strategy games (like Twilight Struggle and the CDG genre created by designer Mark Herman) that are specifically designed to be played in 30-60 minutes. They are smaller-footprint than our longer CDGs, generally including a 22 x 17" map and 40-75 cards.

Each game features a significant strategy challenge and high replayability, and immerses the player in an historical or current crisis. Because of their small footprint and short playing time, these games are perfect for play over a lunch hour or for multiple plays during a gaming evening. They present an excellent introduction for those new to card-driven strategy games, while offering plenty of strategic depth and challenge for veteran players.

Fighting Formations

Fighting Formations is intended to be an ongoing series of wargames covering WWII tactical combined-arms combat at the platoon and squad levels. Each game in the series will feature a distinct combat unit, highlighting battles in which that unit participated as well as its particular order of battle and fighting characteristics.

Great Battles of the American Civil War (GMT)

Concentration on the use, effects and personalities of battlefield command balances with the tactical difficulty of maneuvering large numbers of troops and bringing them to bear tellingly against the enemey in this system, in which combat depends largely on morale, momentum and fatigue.

Leader Series (GMT)

Warfare surpasses the speed of sound and tests the limits of the atmosphere in these games of high-tech jet fighters.

Levy & Campaign Series

The Levy & Campaign Series seeks to explore the dynamics of medieval warfare at the operational level. The game system does not concern itself much with the higher strategic diplomacy that created wars. Nor does it delve into the details of battlefield manoeuvre or tactics. Rather, Levy & Campaign focuses on operational aspects of the medieval military art in between those higher and lower levels of examination.

Levy: During the Levy phase players will mobilize men, material and capabilities for war.

Campaign: During the campaign phase players will tackle problems of:
•Command: The direction of multiple lords’ movements when separated by great distances and perhaps not in full understanding of or even agreement on an overall plan.
•Supply: The provisioning of armies, especially across minimally passable landscapes and in seasonal or other climatic extremes.
•Service: The limits of time during which leaders and troops will serve, tracked on a calendar.

MBT Series

Modern Warfare games cover armed conflicts occurring after World War II (1945 - present). Two precise wars during this period have their own specific category: Korean War and Vietnam War.

The most popular Modern Warfare games are also categorized as Wargames.

Men of Iron Series

Men of Iron is a play-oriented series of games covering the wide spectrum of land battles from, roughly, the era of the first Crusades to the arrival of gunpowder.
The first volume in the series, “The Rebirth of Infantry” focuses on the major battles of the earlier years of the 14th century in Western Europe, mostly before The Black Plague wiped out much of the available manpower. This era also saw a revival in the supremacy – usually defensively and much of it missile-oriented – of foot troops as an antidote to the massive power of charging, heavily armored cavalry.
The purpose of the Men of Iron series is to provide gamers with accessible, fast-playing, fun games of low complexity. To that end, much detail has been either omitted or factored in to overall mechanics. We have tried to provide as much period flavor and historical accuracy as we can, within that stated focus.

Musket & Pike Series (GMT)

Die Spiel behandeln Schlachten des 17.Jahrhunderts, der Ära, in der die Muskete auf die Pike stieß.
Games covering battles in the 17th Century in the unique era when pike met musket.

Next War Series

Modern Warfare games cover armed conflicts occurring after World War II (1945 - present). Two precise wars during this period have their own specific category: Korean War and Vietnam War.

The most popular Modern Warfare games are also categorized as Wargames.

Non-Serial Games (GMT)

Science Fiction Space Combat Games

Science Fiction games often have themes relating to imagined possibilities in the sciences. Such games need not be futuristic; they can be based on an alternative past. (For example, the writings of Jules Verne and the Star Wars saga are set before present time.) Many of the most popular Science Fiction games are set in outer space, and often involve alien races.

VPG/GMT Deluxe Editions

In late 2010, we formed a strategic partnership with our friends at Victory Point Games. The focus of this agreement was to create a collaboration to bring some of the best of VPG's games to a broader market of gamers, utilizing VPG game systems enhanced with high-quality components (mounted mapboards, large thick counters, standard sized cards, etc) under the GMT Games label. These "Deluxe Versions" also include expansions, upgrades, and/or new battles in addition to what is included in the VPG versions of the games, so there is a lot here that is brand new even to veterans of the VPG versions. All of the GMT/VPG games we've thus far agreed to collaborate on are listed below. Here's our quick take on each of the games:

The first game released under this collaboration was NO RETREAT: Deluxe Edition, which launched in August 2011, to broad acclaim and excellent sales. We added a second game in this series, No Retreat: The North African Front, on February 16, 2012. We anticipate adding future No Retreat series games to this line as they become available from VPG.

We are currently working together with VPG to bring you three more games, all of which are currently on GMT's P500 list.

As you can see, FADING GLORY, the first of our Nappy 20 Series quadgames (we hope to do many), is well over the 500 threshold and on its way to a mid 2012 release. These four-game packs are "entry level games on steroids," with a small number of counters in each game, but very interesting systems and tons of replayability.

CIRCUS TRAIN is one of VPG's most popular Family Games. We are committed to bring our customers the best of VPG's family-style games to augment our entry into the Eurogame market, and should add another family game to our P500 list sometime in early 2012.

In January, 2012, we added a new P500 offering for REVOLT and REVOLUTION, containing three games from one of VPG's most popular and best selling series', the State of Siege series. We think all of the VPG games we've chosen are terrific, but this may well be the best of the bunch, as these State of Siege solitaire games are really something special.

We invite you to click the game boxes below to get more details on each game, and, if you like what you see, place a P500 order to help us get these published. We at GMT, and all of our friends at VPG, deeply appreciate your support of our venture.
