(auf das Logo klicken, um zur Firmen-Website zu gelangen)

Hinterwelt is a small press company dealing mostly with science fiction, fantasy and role playing games. Hinterwelt was formed in 1998 to promote the fantasy role playing game Tales of Gaea. Later such games as Nebuleon and the Alternate Earth were started allowing an in depth effort to bring a simple yet detailed system to the science fiction genre of role playing. We are committed to the fusion of the internet, the role-playing industry, and the systems to benefit both. We hope you enjoy what we offer.

Nebuleon

The main goals of most role-playing systems is to have fun, enjoy the discovery and solving of riddles, the social interaction and a sense of accomplishment and excitement. All to often in science fiction RPGs it seems to be higher math, more gadgets, and who has the biggest gun. The object of Nebuleon is to engage both the player and the game master in a story with a point. At different points in your gaming experiences you must have played or seen played the traditional adventurer. You know, the "I am an adventurer and am waiting for an adventure" kind of character. In Nebuleon, it is different.

You create a person with goals and hopes and a reason for being there. The game master has the responsibility to the player to advise them on the scenario but it is ultimately the player who decides why the character is there. For example, I may be a Free Trader who is in to a loan shark for more than I can possibly pay doing my normal runs. I there fore leave the business in the capable hands of my cousin and look to the mercenary boards. The always have something for people desperate enough or willing to risk much for good pay. The GM could force such a scenario on the player but it works much better if it is agreed upon. Nebuleon facilitates this.

Roma Imperious

Roma Imperious is where Alternate History meets Roman Fantasy. During the rule of Constantine, pressed to defeat Maxentius at the battle of the Milvian Bridge, he turns to a group of ambitious druids. They perform a ritual, calling on their gods to give victory to Constantine. In exchange for the spell, Constantine promises freedom for the peoples of western Europe. He would not keep that promise and further he would demand their secrets. The Druids, over the next four hundred years, would raise against Roma demanding their due.

Meanwhile, Rome would follow its own path, building and researching magic in their own way. As the world changes, magic becomes more common and the barbarians flounder in ancient rituals the Romans would push forward into newer and more reliable forms of magic.

The setting for Roma Imperious is one of the world but centered on Roma. In the book you will find detailed sections on the Jade Empire, Skandia, The Roman Empire and Alkasas. The Jade Empire is an empire of the far east taking up what is modern day China and some of southeast asia. It is ruled by a Han Emperor who discovered the secret of immortality. He has ruled for nearly six centuries and brought a peace and wisdom to the Jade Empire not seen before. The Jade Emperor, a title taken by him early on, see the Romans as a direct threat.

Skandia is the pre-viking Norse who have been forced to find other routes of expansion as faced by an increasingly magic reinforced Empire to the south and east. They have taken their ships and magic and begun to spread to the west. They now have colonies in the western hemisphere where they face demons they have brought with them and native they never expected to meet. The Skandians use their magic to aid their voyages of exploration but more importantly, to serve their gods. Odin, Thor, Freyr and many of the other Norse gods live amongst them. Day to day, the gods direct them and grant their priests a bit of their power. This aids them in their battles against the Trold, giants and the most feared Manes Atrox.

Alkasas is a kingdom of evil wizard-priests who occupy what would be northern Russia today. Alkasas is ruled by a king but, as with the Norse, their gods reside in the temples and cities of the kingdom. Hetam-munnun is the goddess of death and rebirth and her priests are a strong political force in the kingdom. Although she does not lead the gods her zeal for the Final Battle where the fate of the world will be decided through a test of arms drives here to the fore. She sees the Roman armies as the single greatest prize to attaining her goals. This puts Alkasas in direct conflict with Roman rulers, often leading to war and intrigue.

Roma Imperious is a collection of all these elements. The Romans are often defined by those outside their boundaries as much as the people they rule. Come inside and take a look.

Shades of Earth

Shades of Earth (S.E.) is an alternate earth history role-playing game. What does that mean, you might ask. Quite simply, you role-play characters from different periods in time with slight twists. In 1938, you might play a group of agents from the top secret Department 12 using your spell casting abilities to thwart evil German agents bent on reaping the souls of humanity for their evil master...or maybe you are on the German's side?!?!? Sail on a voyage of discovery in search of the west route to the Spice Islands. In doing so you risk encounters with the Aztecs and fearsome sea monsters. In 1066, you fight the invading elves who back the Normans as they sweep into England. Use all your cunning and druidic magics of the Britons to defeat the Normans and the Elven masters.

Alternate earths also means playing farther along the deviated history. What if a druid had offered druidic magic to defeat Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge. After a quick victory over the superior foe, Constantine founds the first colleges of magic which allow the Empire to survive barbarian invasions and expand its borders. A thousand years later sees a thriving empire with legions, merchants and a powerful mage class.

Shades of Earth uses HinterWelt Enterprises' own Iridium System. The Iridium System is a skill based system that allows simplicity to cross with realism. This is done by creating a modular approach to elements of the game. Since it is skill based (classes are merely starting skill packages) creating new classes means merely coming up with new groupings of skills. The 11 stats that outline the attributes of a character also add to the chance of success with skill. The combat system uses a Defense based on a character's physical attributes. Armor makes you easier to hit but protects you from damage. The body is broken up into 10 different areas and damage is tracked and healed in that manner. Get too low on Fortitude in a vital area and you may pass out. You will not find epic combat in the Iridium System. If you are shot or run through you will most likely die but so will your enemies.

We, at HinterWelt, feel this is an interesting setting and hope you will take the time to look around and get the feel of the game.

Squirrel Attack RPG

What came before...

In the time before history, Annut, the first squirrel was the friend of Man. Anmeow, the cat goddess, became jealous and chased Annut and his kin off to the Other World. There, they were befriended by Mother Nature and founded the kingdom of Nuttopia. In time, the Fairies taught them magic and the Squirrel Kin applied it to all things squirrel-like.
Crisis in Nuttopia

Nuttopia has grown and the tribes of squirrels are many. They now are dependant on the supply of nuts from the Shire. A horrible blight has struck shriveling their nuts. They must find a new supply and the only place they know of is the Mortal World. Thus, Operation: Get Mr. Jones' Nuts is born.

A crack team of squirrels is assembled from the tribes of the Squirrel Kin. Even if they can only return with a small supply of nuts the passage through the Underworld will multiply them to hundreds and thousands.
Squirrel Tribes

Tales of Gaea

Tales of Gaea is a journey via the role-playing experience. Gaea is a world where magic has grown along side logic and the needs of the people who use it. Magic serves the people of Gaea much the same way science serves the people of earth. In other words, Gaea is a world where the "laws of magic" have supplanted the "laws of science". For instance, all magic on Gaea conserves energy or channels power from another source while the mage/cleric/mystic gives it form. Here is a world where many cultures are represented from the familiar to the bizarre. These many cultures live in close proximity and this often leads to clashes in war and trade while allowing many blendings of the different ideologies. This creates a world where elves, dwarves, humans, solaan-lesthra, kolba, orcs, gnomes and many other races compete for material and space. Often the conflicts will spill over from one race to another and sometimes it is internal. (...)
